About Naija Java User Group

Naija Java User Group (Naija JUG) is a community of Java developers, software engineers, students, technology enthusiasts, and professionals committed to learning, building, connecting, and growing together.

Our goal is simple: to strengthen the Java and software engineering community by creating opportunities for people to learn, share knowledge, build practical skills, and connect with others in the industry.

We believe some of the best professional growth happens when people have a community where they can learn from one another, discuss real engineering challenges, teach what they know, and gain practical experience.

What We Do

Our weekly Lightning Talks create an accessible space for community members to teach and learn from one another.

These are focused sessions where developers can share practical knowledge, explore technologies, discuss engineering concepts, demonstrate something they have built, or introduce the community to something worth learning.

The goal isn't only to listen to experts.

We also want to create more experts by giving people opportunities to learn, teach, present, and exchange ideas.

Every month, we host larger sessions featuring experienced professionals and industry experts speaking about topics that matter to developers and technology professionals.

These sessions go beyond learning a particular Java API or framework.

We explore software engineering, architecture, emerging technologies, career development, industry experiences, and the challenges engineers encounter while building real-world systems.

They also give members an opportunity to interact with professionals who have accumulated valuable experience in the industry.

💻 Bootcamps & Practical Learning

We organize bootcamps designed to move learning beyond theory.

Our bootcamps provide structured, hands-on learning experiences where participants can develop practical software engineering skills and build real applications.

We have run longer-term training programs and continue to develop shorter, focused bootcamps around technologies and skills that are relevant to developers and students.

🎓 University & Student Engagement

We are also working with universities and student communities to help bridge the gap between academic learning and practical software engineering.

Our goal is to support students studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and related disciplines with practical sessions and short bootcamps that complement what they are learning in school.

We want students to encounter real engineering practices, tools, technologies, and communities early in their journey.
